Sandwich Schools Select Project Manager, Look To Hire Facilities Director – CapeNews.net

Sandwich Public Schools has selected Pomroy Associates to oversee the capital projects underway within the district.
Pomroy Associates was chosen from a pool of six candidates who were all interviewed by Superintendent Joseph P. Maruszczak, business manager Michelle J. Austin, former facilities director James P. McGrail and Town Manager George H. (Bud) Dunham.
Dr. Maruszczak said Pomroy Associates was the candidate that is best-suited to meet the district’s needs.
“One of the advantages is that they are doing a lot of project management with regard to town projects, specifically the move to the bank,” he said.
The firm is also working on the town’s Center for Active Living and has been involved in a number of other projects across the state including the relocation of the Gay Head Lighthouse and upgrades made to the Dennis Transfer Station and Department of Public Works.
Dr. Maruszczak said the firm will be able to facilitate the move of the central offices into the Human Services building once those offices move into the Center for Active Living, which is expected to have a certificate of occupancy sometime next month.
Those offices are expected to be able to move by this coming January, which Dr. Maruszczak said will allow for the interior gutting of the building to begin around February.
He said the district is realistically looking at a move to the Human Services building by December 2023.
The next steps for the district will be to negotiate an hourly rate with the firm.
In addition to looking for a project manager, the district is looking to hire a facilities manager due to the death of Jonathan R. Nelson.
Dr. Maruszczak said the job has been posted twice and 13 applications have come in. So far three people have been interviewed, with several more interviews scheduled for next week.
He said the applicants have had a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience and that it will be a very difficult position to fill.
“We’ve got a small but committed team that’s doing the interviewing,” he said. “Our game plan would be to get somebody on board by the first of the year.”
